For instance, it can't tell the difference between "Real and imagined", which is why a belief system works. That is the reason an affirmation works.
In other words, if you worry, or have stress, be it real or imagined, your brain will always process those thoughts as real.
That is what stress and anxiety responses are all about, the "fight or flight syndrome." When confronted with something causing fear, your sympathetic nervous system is triggered, and a surge of hormones, including adrenaline and cortisol, are released into your bloodstream.
From that point upon, everything is physically real. You will be paralyzed by fear, or you feel the adrenaline rush as it affects all your body systems, and you end up loaded with adrenalin, ready to jump, muscles pumped up, but nothing to go for.
We seldom fight or flee these days, and the adrenalin and cortisol stay in our system. Make sure to eliminate the excess adrenalin through physical exercise or relaxation.
You start worrying about something you have imagined, e.g. your partner is late coming home, and you see in your mind a car crash, hospital - the works. Your nervous system will react, causing you to feel hot and sweaty, and your heart is pounding. - All those sensations will make your imagination even worse.
Congratulations, you have just entered a vicious stress and worry cycle. Getting out of this cycle is challenging. You have a good chance if you are aware of what you are doing to yourself. You can turn this around by thinking something positive, constructive or by doing relaxation exercises, or help yourself by concentrating on some task.
The basic rule is, if whatever you are doing is not working, do something else!
The point therefore is:
If you worry (think, imagine) yourself sick, you can also think or affirm yourself healthy! (Or whatever it is that you want to achieve). The stronger the positive beliefs, the stronger the positive reaction. Take control of your belief system, and choose wisely!
While taking control of your belief system, be aware of where your beliefs came from. Did they come from your childhood? From your family, people you talked to? From the media, the Internet, Facebook, or whoever speaks the loudest? Choose your beliefs carefully; the life you get results from your beliefs.
Evaluate your stress level, how high is it?
Imagine stress like a thermometer, ranging from 1 to 100. If you’re running on a constant 99, you will go over the edge very quickly. Those are the outbursts over absolutely nothing that may well trigger your anxieties. It is the famous straw, which breaks the camel’s back. And it is real! Anger, if not dealt with can do the same. Work on getting those stressors out of your life by bringing the thermometer back under the 50% barriers.
